The Sloths train 3 times a week on the water;
Sessions focus on building different fitness components depending on the particular part of the race season. They are targeted to getting race crews fit, and have been proven to get paddlers ready to perform.
In addition to the Sloths club training, many of our paddles train and race in Outrigger canoes, in single craft boats (OC1), two-person conoes (OC2) or in a six-person canoe (OC6) to further improve their fitness level. The club has four OC1s which are free for members to use. Our paddlers have taken part in a number of Outrigger races including the Narrabeen lake series and the 110 km Hawkesbury Canoe Classic. Extreme achievements include the 404km Murray Marathon and the 740 km Yukon River Quest.
Many of our members joined the Sloths with a desire to push their fitness to the highest levels. As such we have extensive experience in personal transformation, up to and including preparing paddlers for representing NSW and Australia.
Our members enjoy off water training together in the gym, outdoors or in different sports. Some also compete in running, swimming, power lifting and indoor rowing comps.
